A Year in Review

For me, this has been a great year. First, I got engaged, on New Years eve. Then I got married. After that we were lucky enough to buy an awesome house in Texas and move out of Arkansas. I also get to be closer to my sister since we moved, she is now only 45 min away.

Of course there are always the bad things that go along with the good. Like our trip to Oregon last June, was meant to be full of happiness and tons of fun. And it was, till that last day we were suppose to be there. Till the day I had to get rushed in for emergency surgery.. Leave it to me to be the 1-in-a-million girl who just has to try and grow a baby on her right ovary..

Aside from the surgery, this year has been great and I can't wait to see what next year has in store for me! Maybe a baby that grows in the right place? Lets hope!!

I hope everyone has a fun safe New Years!! ♥

Christmas Loot and Table Settings

From my husband, I got a potato storage box. It says Taters on the top and has a picture of a bucket of potatoes on the front(we found this at an antique store, I was with my husband when he bought it for me..). From my mom I got an Eeyore hoodie and a bunch of Disney movies.

My sister got me the Twilight series and the Sleeping Beauty movie.

Our table was done up very simply. We got the table runner and napkins and place mats on sale the day before Christmas (I hadn't been able to find anything before..). The center piece I made from some branches from a tree out front. My mom sent the candle in the center for Christmas. It was the perfect addition for my center piece.

I hope everyone had the Christmas they expected and got everything they wanted!!

Happy Birthday Daddy!

My father, Donn Deedon, was a great man. I can't believe its been almost 2 years since he died. Nowadays, this time of year leaves me with mixed feelings. I love Christmas. I love my dad. Those 2 things always went hand in hand. My dad's birthday was on the 24Th of December. Christmas eve.

Christmas always makes me happy, its my favorite time of year. My dad not being able to be here to celebrate another birthday and Christmas, makes me sad. I know he's in a better place and is pain free now, but I still want my Daddy!

My dad will forever live on in the words of his poetry. He was known best for his magnificent voice and the way he could pull you into his poetry. He was known for the Fedora he always wore.If you look out into the crowd and saw a tall man wearing a Fedora, it must be Donn!

My dad with his favorite brother, Uncle Glenn.

Some of these pictures, are bad I know. They were cropped from a photo of a collage of pictures that was at his Memorial service. These are the only pictures I have of him.. If I have any others I don't know where they are..

This was painted for my dad, by a friend of his, back in L.A. I wish I could remember the artist's name. It now hangs above my fireplace. I'm not sure how, but it depicts my dad very well. Its hard to explain, but if you'd known him you would look at it and see my dad. He had a love of butterfly's. The chain he is wearing in most of these pictures, has a butterfly on it. He never took it off.

Happy Birthday Daddy! I love you!

Christmas Baking

My mom always sends me a goodie package this time of year. I love all her holiday treats. So this year I thought I would send her a package of goodies.

Lemon nut white chip cookies.
These turned out really good!

Kolacky.
I've never made these before, or heard of them, but they looked simple to make.

Of course they were suppose to look more like this..

Oh well. They still taste good!

Again, I would like to thank everyone for their kind words on my last post. I am getting out of my Christmas funk. I have enjoyed all the baking and got to do a little shopping today with my husband. It was nice being able to spend the day with him.

I don't feel like posting the recipe for these cookies at the moment, but if anyone out there wants them, just let me know and I'll post the recipes

I Think I Know

Christmas has always held a special place in my heart. Last years Christmas blog, Christmas and my dad , tells of my loss of Christmas spirit. I believe I am still having trouble with this. Add on the fact that we just moved and have no money for anything. Last year my tree was overflowing with presents. This year it is naked. Not a single present under the tree. Christmas just doesn't feel the same this year.
I have very fond childhood memories. My mother putting hay in the living room, setting up a manger scene, and all of us kids getting to sleep in the hay Christmas Eve. Both my mother and father's birthdays are the day before Christmas Eve and Christmas Eve, not to mention I have a brother and an aunt who share a birthday on Christmas Day. Oh, and I can't forget my niece, whose birthday in the 31st. Christmas time has always been special.
With the way things have been this year, plus not having my dad around anymore just makes it hard and I think that is why I am losing my Christmas spirit. I have a post planned for my dad's birthday.
I want to say thanks for all those who left encouraging words on my last post.
Thank you!
I appreciate it a lot.
Hugs to all of you ♥

Nothing to Blog About

I have nothing to blog about. My Christmas spirit is at an all-time low. It's cold outside, but not snowing( I want it to snow so bad). And I just feel BLAH! I can't even come up with anymore to say..

This is what's left of my Christmas cookies. The rest either broke before I could get them frosted, or my husband ate them. Mostly they all broke..

Mantel in Progress

Here is a sample of what my mantle will look like.
My husband is out in the garage, now, working on it..

In the Spirit of Christmas

My friend Michelle posted this today overon her blog. I thought it was neat and I would steal it for myself to do.

1. Wrapping paper or gift bags?

Wrapping paper. I love to wrap stuff, but it always comes out crappy..

2. Real tree or Artificial?
I love the smell of real tree's but you just can't beat the pre-lit artificial ones.. I love my fake tree

3. When do you put up the tree?

The day after Thanksgiving, or somewhere around there..

4. When do you take the tree down?

Around New years..

5. Do you like eggnog?

I remember having it once as a kid. I didn't like it then. I have not tried it yet as an adult. There is some in my fridge that my sis brought over, of course it's not the kids version..

6. Favourite gift received as a child?

I can't remember.. When I was 11 my mom got me a clock/radio/phone. That was pretty cool!

7. Hardest person to buy for?

Me.. I never know what I want..

8. Easiest person to buy for?

My hubby. All he wants are tools.

9. Do you have a nativity scene?

Yes I do. My mom sent me one a few years ago. I don't have it out yet because I'm still waiting for my mantel to get built..

10. Mail or email Christmas cards?

I don't do either. I would like to start mailing cards out though..

11. Worst Christmas gift you ever received?

I don't remember a worst present, I do remember my sister getting more presents than me though..

12. Favourite Christmas Movie?

That would have to be "A Christmas Story"! I love that movie and watch it every year when TNT does the 24hr marathon of it!!

13. When do you start shopping for Christmas?

In December of November I guess..

14. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present?

Not that I can remember..

15. Favourite thing to eat at Christmas?

My mom's cranberry nut bread and her Christmas candies that she makes. I look forward to getting those in the mail every year!

16. Lights on the tree?

Yes, it came pre-lit with white lights.

17. Favourite Xmas song?Favourite carol?

Silver bells and the Carol of the Bells.

18. Travel at Christmas or stay home?

Maybe someday I'll get back home for Christmas, but for now its just me and the hubby at home, although last year we drove to St. Louis for Christmas. I don't think we'll be doing that this year.. We use to live only 4 hours away, but since we moved to Texas, its a lot longer..

19. Can you name all of Santa’s reindeer?

Comet, Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Blitzen, Rudolph, and there's one more.. Crap I can't think of it.. Wait.. is it Donner?

20. Angel on the tree top or a star?

I had an Angel once, but I gave it to a friend. Now I have a star thingy..

21. Open the presents Christmas Eve or morning?

I grew up only opening them on Christmas, but I talked the hubby into opening one on Christmas eve last year..

22. Most annoying thing about this time of the year?

All the Christmas shoppers. I refuse to leave the house!

23. Favourite ornament theme or colour?

My tree is done up in blue and silver ornaments.

24. Favourite memory of Christmas?

When I was little, my mom would put hay in the living room and make like a manger scene. All of us kids would get to sleep in the hay. My mom did that every year until we moved up to Oregon. I would love to do something like that for my kids someday..

25. What do you want for Christmas this year?

I'm easy.. All I want for Christmas is some Disney movies or an apron..

Dog and Bear

I put this Christmas bear up last night.

Our dog, Junior, is scared of it.

Here she is running away from it, while growling.

Looking back to make sure it didn't follow. Still growling.

Keeping an eye on it from the other room.

This is the first time she has seen this bear. I don't know why she is scared of it, but it hilarious. My husband and I laughed our butts off last night...
